The three, who were arrested on a tip-off, have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The accused have also been booked for forgery.

“The offenders have been booked for cheating, trespassing and selling low quality water. The extracted water is not fit for drinking,” said Rajesh Prakash, administrative officer, Noida authority.

After the incident, the authority has woken up to the issue of illegal extraction of ground water. "We have seized 10 tankers. Documents suggest that the accused had been filling tankers in Noida and selling water in Delhi illegally," said an authority official.

"The water table is depleting. The authority will intensify its drive against illegal borewells. Illegal borewell owners will be booked under relevant sections," said the officer.
