Accepting RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin's prayer for specialised treatment for his spinal problem, Patna High Court on Tuesday selected three eminent neuro-surgeons of the country to examine him in Siwan jail and submit report in three weeks.
Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad chose Dr AK Jain of AIIMS (Delhi), Dr Maniyar of Beach Candy (Mumbai) and Dr Vikram Kashyap Sagar Apollo (Bangalore) from a list of 11 reputed neuro surgeons submitted to him by Shahabuddin's counsel YV Giri and requested them to visit Siwan on a convenient date to examine the MP.
The court ordered that all expenses of the doctors'visit would be borne by Shahabuddin.
The state government, which was also asked by the court on Monday to suggest names of doctors of its choice, did not furnish any list.
State government advocate Uday Bhanu Rai informed the court that the state medical board had already examined the MP five times and did not recommed sending him outside for treatment.
The MP, facing over three dozen criminal cases of kidnapping, murder, violations of Arms Act and Wildlife Act, had sought the court's intervention in securing specialised treatment for the spinal problem he was suffering from for the past 10 years which had aggravated after May 10.
Shahabuddin was shifted to Siwan divisional jail from Bhagalpur jail on May 8 by road.
A RJD delegation had last week submitted a memorandum to Governor RS Gavai seeking his direction for sending Shahabuddin outside the state for specialised treatment.
