The victim has been identified as Bhushan Sharma (40), an accountant with a private company, his wife Shikha Sharma (35), a teacher in a public school, and daughter Simran. Police suspect the murder took place around 12-15 hours ago.

“The bodies were found in a pool of blood and had turned black,” said a police official. Sharma’s 12-year-old daughter Vanshikha is the only surviving member of the family. She was away at her grandmother’s home in Bijnor when the murders took place. Police have detained Vishal Sharma, the accountant’s unemployed younger brother, for questioning.

Sharma’s neighbours told Hindustan Times that both Sharma’s wife and daughter were found in a semi-nude state. However, the police did not confirm whether the women were raped before being murdered. “It is too early to say anything. The possibility of rape and the motive will come out clearly during investigations,” DIG (Meerut Range) Aditya Mishra said.

The murder was detected after Shikha Sharma, who teaches at Ryan Public School at Hapur, did not turn up at work on Saturday.

“The victim’s sister Shweta runs the school. When Shikha did not turn up, her sister called her but failed to get a response. So she went to the victim’s house to enquire. She spotted the three bodies first,” the police said.

Police said the victim’s head were brutally battered with some heavy object. There were injury marks on all the three. “The entire house was ransacked,” said the police.

“The family had no enmity with anyone. I don’t know the reason for murders…,” said Shweta Sharma.
