TN Govt transfers Kanyakumari collector

Tamil Nadu government has transferred Kanyakumari Collector Ramesh Chand Meena who had been criticised for his role in relief and rescue operations in the Tsunami affected district.

Meena has been replaced by Theni District Collector Sunil Paliwal, a government order said in Chennai late on Friday night.

Meena's transfer comes close on the heels of allegations by some political leaders, including MDMK general secretary Vaiko, that the collectors of Kanykumari and Nagapattinam were conspicuous by their absence when relief and rescue works were taken up in tsunami hit coastal areas.

Director of Sericulture, Salem, Rajesh Lakhoni, would be the new Theni collector.
