Unleashing fresh rein of terror, Lashker cadre executed a Fidayeen attack critically injuring a Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Mendhar town of border district of Poonch, on Wednesday morning.
Critically injured SDPO, Mendhar, Yougal Manhas was airlifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu for further treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the Fidayeen attack occurred at 10:00 am, outside the office of SDPO, Mendhar.
After spotting SDPO Yougal Manhas approaching towards SDPO office, suspected armed Fidayeen came on the road from his hideout in main market and opened indiscriminate firing causing serious injuries to SDPO Yougal Manhas on his shoulder and chest.
'He fell unconscious while his Personal Security Officers (PSOs) retaliated,' informed eyewitnesses adding that 'as there was crowd so the it was not possible to aim directly at the Fidayeen following which the accused got mixed up with the crowd and managed to escape.'
Hearing gunshots, the civilians including children and women and ran for safer cover, which further unable the police to trace the accused.
Soon after the incident, senior police and army officers including SSP, Poonch Jagjit Kumar rushed to spot and launched combing operations in the adjoining forest belts as well as at all the suspected hideouts in the town area to nab the accused.
