A self-styled Deputy Divisional Commander, who was coordinating LeT's operations in south Kashmir, was killed in an exchange of fire with police at Dialgam on Tuesday night, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Anantnag, HK Lohia informed.

The locals of the area have identified the dead terrorist as Qari but police was cross checking on his identity, he said in Srinagar.

A pistol and some hand grenades were recovered from the possession of the slain terrorist.

The killing of the Lashkar commander is a major success for the police as it comes less than 24 hours of the serial grenade blasts in Srinagar on Tuesday.

IGP Kashmir SM Sahai told reporters on Tuesday that LeT was behind the attacks in which eight people were killed and 35 injured.

Meanwhile, an unidentified terrorist was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces at Aragam in Baramulla district, a defence spokesman said.

A CRPF jawan sustained injuries in the operation that was still underway, he said.
