A large number of traders staged a sit-in outside the Chowk police station today. The protesters were raising anti-police slogans during demonstration.

Patron of Vypar Mandal Mohan Lal Saravagi and secretary Ajeet Singh Bagga alleged that law and order situation was deteriorating persistently in Varanasi and there was a nexus of police officials, criminals and politicians.

They said that traders were reeling under a sense of insecurity as the traders were being extorted persistently.

“Instead of checking criminal activities, the police officials are engaged in minting money,” they alleged and said that the law and order has become so worse that police stations were denied to lodge an FIR of common persons. He said that under such a scenario, traders would initiate a movement to raise their voice against the apathetic attitude of police.

Prominent among others who were present during demonstration included Jethmal Chandak, Gokul Sharma, Sanjeev Singh and Ramesh Nirankari.
