Tral erupts in protests against "molestation" of a girl student

The Tral quarter of southern district of Pulwama rose in protests against what they alleged molestation of a girl student by some CRPF soldiers at Butanoor near Mandoora village on Monday. The protestor occupied streets in the town, raised slogans against BSF troopers and forced a strike in the town.
The protests took a violent turn when police faced resistance from the protestors while the former sought them to disperse. Around two dozen persons including nine policemen were injured in the clashes that ensued.
The protestors alleged that a CRPF party during frisking of passengers of a bus at Mandoora molested a girl student. She was identified as Tabassum of Panmier village. They alleged that the student fainted after two CRPF jawans molested her during frisking. The protests continued till late in the afternoon.
A police spokesperson said that some people including nine policemen were injured when police resorted to mild lathi-charge to control a violent mob in Tral.
He said that some personnel of 185 Bn CRPF were conducting a routine checking at Mandoora in Tral when some students travelling in a bus objected to frisking and refused to get themselves checked. "A heated argument ensued between students and CRPF personnel and they started marching towards the CRPF camp gate where a company of CRPF is stationed. In the ensuing melee a girl student namely Tabasum D/O Noor Mohammed R/O Pannier fainted out of fright. Some vested interests tried to take the advantage of this situation and instigated the people to block Tral road and resorted to stone pelting," he stated.
The spokesperson said that Tral police immediately reached the spot and after a mild lathi charge, the situation was brought under control.
The spokesperson said that some people including nine policemen received minor injuries in the lathi charge and have been provided first aid.
He identified the injured policemen as Ct Mohammed Tufail, SPO Showkat Ahmed and PSO of SHO Tral SgCt Mohammed Syed and Ct Abdul Qayoom, Ct Mohammed Maqbool, Ct Mohammed Hussain, Ct Abdul Rashid, SPO Santokh Singh and Ct Abdul Majeed.
He disclosed that in this regard two FIRs have been lodged in P/S Tral and P/S Awantipora against some people for spreading misinformation and instigating people.
