According to GM LESA AK Singh, the transformer kept on burning for more than four hours in the night and the whole area of Alambagh and Jail Road plunged into darkness.

Shocked over the incident, LESA GM said that a panel would soon probe the issue to ascertain whether it was sabotage or an accident.

According to LESA superintendent engineer Bal Karan Singh, the transformer will be replaced on Sunday. Meanwhile, the power supply was normalised only in the evening with the help of second transformer installed at the powerhouse.

The residents went without power and water because water supply in the area was based on tube wells.

According to the sources, the transformer caught fire because of laxity on the part of power staff present.

Meanwhile, in another incident residents of Napier road colony demonstrated at the sub-station and manhandled the staff present there. An FIR was lodged against the residents by LESA staff.

Meanwhile, power supply was affected in the Hazratganj and Hussainganj areas due to the cable fault.
