But little did Mohini Marandi (22), posted at Bathanbari Upgraded Primary School under Bengabad police station in Giridih district, knew that her marriage with Wahid Ansari would so much irk her community members that she would be boycotted from her community.
Ironically, it’s a people’s representative who has ordered the social boycott of Marandi. The JMM MLA from Gandey Salkhan Soren called for social boycott of the teacher as she has allegedly converted to Islam. The boycott has been ordered as Marandi has allegedly violated the tribal norms, says the MLA.
“We have called up tribal heads from different locations across the district to participate in a meeting at Bathanbari village on July 11. We will discuss the final course of action to be taken,” Soren said while talking to the Hindustan Times.
He added that if the girl’s family still accepts her, given that she has converted to Islam, the tribal community might decide to socially boycott the entire family as well. “I have sufficient evidence to prove that Mohini entered into an inter-religious wedlock. Come what may, she would not be allowed to live in the village,” Soren said.
It may be mentioned that Marandi’s father Shanti Marandi had filed a case at Bengabad police station in which he had accused Wahid Ansari, resident of Naitand village, of sexually abusing her daughter.
The Bengabad police had registered the case under Section 376 of IPC on the basis of a statement given by Shanti Marandi.
However, the victim and the accused later got married at Deoghar court. A nikah ceremony was also performed in which Marandi allegedly converted to Islam and was renamed as Sajida Khatoon.
