Additional police superintendent (Headquarters) Ashish Biswas said that the Chatterjee was giving a speech at the rally in Balipur Bazar when some party supporters pushed and shoved the policemen posted at the venue.

Seeing the commotion, however, Chatterjee stopped his speech midway and came down to talk to his party supporters. After pacifying them, he continued his speech.

Pointing out that a number of CPI(M) leaders from Kolkata had been visiting Khanakul recently, he said armed party cadre were openly roaming about in the area with police remaining silent spectators.

Chatterjee said that the officer-in-charge of Khanakul police station was not acting impartially.

Earlier, Chatterjee and Deb led a 'padayatra' of Trinamool Congress workers from Gholdigrui under Pursura police station to Balipur.
