Sixteen days later, Trinamool Congress supporters assaulted three policemen on duty and vandalised a police station in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.

Locals claimed the Trinamool supporters were led by a former panchayat pradhan to the police station to submit a deputation against the present CPM-ruled panchayat pradhan of Joygaria village.

But they became violent when they did not find the inspector in-charge.

Local Trinamool MLA Biswajit Das blamed the CPIM. “It seems that some CPM workers, who had joined the Trinamool workers, indulged in the act. We will investigate and take action.”

The incident comes on the back of a sub-inspector’s murder by a Trinamool Congress goon in Kolkata, and when the police commissioner ordered a crackdown on the accused, the chief minister promptly removed him.
