All contacts in the address book, including many in the top echeleons of the ministry and bureaucracy received the email from jchaudhury58@hotmail.com saying "I am out of the country in Cyprus. I need a loan of $ 2000 and I will explain the matter and refund the money back to you immediately after I get back on Friday."

Chowdhury said today that he was on a short visit to New Delhi recently, but was very much in the country when his hotmail account was hacked and he began receiving telephone calls from his contacts about the email.

Chowdhury said he had contacted the New Delhi-based Cyber Crime Cell yesterday and also referred the case to the state director general of police.
