Ian Bell looks set to bat at No. 3 for England in next week's third test against India after Jonathan Trott was ruled out because of a shoulder injury.
Ravi Bopara replaces Trott in a 13-man squad, which also includes Steve Finn as cover for paceman Chris Tremlett.
Bopara looks likely to make his first Test appearance since 2009, batting lower down the order, while both Tremlett and Finn are likely to sit out the match after Tim Bresnan excelled with bat and ball in England's second Test victory.
England leads the four-match series 2-0 and can replace the tourists at the top of the Test rankings with victory at Edgbaston.
The third Test starts on Wednesday.
