Trouble ahead: Some JD(U) MPs might desert ship

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s political fight against BJP’s PM nominee Narendra Modi is threatening to get disturbed because of a rebellion brewing with the Janata Dal (United).
At a time when Kumar is aspiring for a leadership role in the proposed “Third Front” by pitching his “people-centered” model of development versus Modi’s “corporate governance” formula, a section of the 19 JD (U) MPs are planning to desert the ship.
Close on the heels of the CM’s close aide Devesh Chandra Thakur’s decision to walk out of the party, several MPs have hit out against Kumar.
MP from Gopalganj, Purnmasi Ram described Kumar’s functioning style as “dictatorial” and said that his tenure has seen the rise of “officer-shahi” (rule of bureaucracy). “The bureaucracy has been looting the state with both hands. I am thoroughly disappointed”, Ram told HT. Ram is said to be interested in contesting the coming polls as a candidate of Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal.
Jhanjharpur MP Mangni Lal Mandal is planning to contest on a RJD ticket. Sushil Kumar Singh, sitting party MP from Aurangabad, described Kumar’s tenure as one marked by “non-governance and corruption”. “The CM’s attempt to turn “secular” after 17 years of being in alliance with the BJP are laughable”, he said.
Singh recently met BJP chief Rajnath Singh to seek the party’s ticket to contest the LS polls.
Muzaffarpur MP, Captain (Retd) Jainarain Prasad Nishad, prophesied that “Kumar would be decimated in the coming elections.”
