A DAY after the High Court here dismissed their petitions; the district administration served fresh notices on 57 tenants of the erstwhile Raja of Mahmudabad asking them to vacate their premises immediately.

Meanwhile, in a missive to the administration authorities here on Wednesday, Custodian of Enemy Authority Dinesh Singh has asked them to prepare an inventory on a six-point proforma against each to-be-evicted tenant. “Apart from the name of each tenant, we have been asked to specify his/her period of tenancy, nature of work, approximate value of the property and that of movable and other fixtures in it,” said an administration official.

On the other hand, the tenants along with the traders of Lucknow Vyapar Mandal formed a human chain from Allahabad Bank Crossing till Halwasiya Market urging the scion of Mahmudabad not to deprive them of their livelihood. A large number of shopkeepers and staff of the establishments that face closure participated in the demonstration at around 4.45 pm much to the curiosity of the passers-by and throwing traffic out of gear in Hazratganj. The traders would take out a torch light procession from Janpath Market on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the president of the Vyapar Mandal Laxminarain Agarwal said a review petition in the matter would be moved in the Supreme Court on Thursday. “The courts should give priority the people’s interest,” he said, adding that it was a bread-and-butter issue for the tenants.

In its earlier notices to the tenants on August 7, the district administration had given them time till August 16, which was subsequently extended till August 25 on the former’s plea. Those who have again been served notices are: Capoor Hotel, Kohli Brothers and the Royal Café restaurant in Hazratganj.

Among the shops/premises in Mehmudabad Mansion in Hazratganj that have been served notices in this connection are the Fairdeal Agencies, Sharma Associates, Remington Typewriter shop, Kalpatru Hall, Secretary, International Vidyapeeth, the two showrooms of Ganga Corporation, UP Asbestos, Savitri Devi and Rukmani Devi. Likewise, those in the Lawrie Building, also part of the Mehmudabad Estate, include Mahatech Handloom, Modern Book Stall, Bansal and Sons, Ghanshyam Opticals, Prakash Makhija, Pantaloon Shop, KC Sweets, Lucknow Chikan Palace, Anu Advertising and Messrs Keshav House.
