Two get life sentence for raping minor

The sessions court on Friday sentenced two persons for raping a minor girl at Airoli in 2007.

The sessions court on Friday sentenced two persons for raping a minor girl at Airoli in 2007.

Chandrakant Bhandari(45) and his son-in-law Raghu Wage(22), fishermen from neighbouring Airoli in Thane district, were accused of raping a 16-year-old girl on April 17, 2007.

The girl and her boyfriend sitting late evening at Mulund - Airoli bridge when Bhandari and Wage spotted them and assaulted them.

The boyfriend, Sandip Chaudhary, passed out. Bhandari and Wage then took the girl away in fishing boat and raped her.

The duo then got drunk. Taking advantage of it, the girl escaped.

Police zeroed in on the duo after they learnt that they have not returned home since after the incident. Bhandari also had a criminal record, he had been arrested for robbery.

Two boys had assisted the duo by keeping watch while they raped the girl. Their cases are pending in juvenile justice board.
