Dev Vrat, a 34-year-old professor in Ghaziabad, was waylaid by a gang trailing his new Maruti Swift and shot at. But a constable came to Vrat’s rescue and arrested one of the carjackers with the help of bystanders.

The gang later stopped another Swift near SP Mukherjee Park close to NH-24, shot its 30-year-old driver dead and fled with the car.

Ghaziabad SSP Prashant Kumar said patrolling on NH-24 would be intensified.
