Two HWB employees held on graft charges

The State Vigilance Bureau (SVB) arrested two employees of Haryana Wakf Board (HWB) red-handed, while accepting Rs 53,000 as bribe in Kaithal on Wednesday.

The State Vigilance Bureau (SVB) arrested two employees of Haryana Wakf Board (HWB) red-handed, while accepting Rs 53,000 as bribe in Kaithal on Wednesday.

While informing this, SVB superintendent of police (SP) Manvir Singh said that the accused, included estate officer (EO) Mohammad Illias and rent collector Niaz Mohammad.

He said that in his complaint to SVB, Pundari resident Tek Chand alleged that he had submitted papers for allotment of 30-square-yard plot adjacent to the plot in the name of his wife at Kaithal office of HWB.

He alleged that the EO demanded Rs 5 lakh bribe in lieu of the work adding that the deal was then finalised at Rs 1.75 lakh.

The complainant said that he had paid Rs 1.22 lakh to both accused on different dates, but they were insisting on paying the remaining amount.

The SP said that a raiding party was constituted after registering the complaint and inspector Ranbir Singh and executive magistrate Ram Niwas Bhambu caught the two red-handed, while receiving Rs 53,000.
