Two Indians join F1 RMA 3000 cross-country race

Gautam Singhania and Hormazad Sorabjee are the only Indians participating in the RMA Formula 1 race from London to Prague.

Like the Virgin-Atlantic boss Sir Richard Branson, who enjoys ballooning and other sports adventure, our own industrialist Gautam Singhania of Raymonds seems to love motor racing. He flew to London to participate in the RMA cross-country race from here to Prague.

Singhania and Hormazad Sorabjee are the only Indians who are participating in the race. Driving a 400bhp Ferrari 360 Modena for this race, Singhania is also among the very few Indians who have driven a full-fledged Formula 1 car and has touched speed of 300 kph.

The race was flagged off from Hyde Park early morning on Saturday for a 5000-km high-sped dash across Europe. There at the starting point one could see an array of "dashing", super-charged cars including Porsches, Lamborghinis, Jaguars, Maseratis and Ferraris.

The cars would pass through Vienna, Budapest and the German autobahns, on which there is no speed limit. The race is to culminate in Prague on September 25.

Part of the RMA 3000 schedule also involves driving on world class racing circuits such as Hungaroring, where just five weeks ago, Michael Schumacher notched up his 12th Formula 1 win of the season.
