Two militants killed in Imphal shootout

A small cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the militants who were extorting money from the locals.

Two militants were killed in an encounter with commandos in Minuthong Hatta area in Imphal on Saturday, official sources said.

The commandos also reported that the militants had made an unsuccessful attempt at their lives with a grenade that failed to explode.

A small cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from them.

Sources said police commandos, attached to Imphal East district police station, were deployed at strategic points at Minuthong Hatta area following reports of movement of suspected militants.

The militants were extorting money from local people, the sources said.
