Two NLFT militants were arrested and rifles allegedly looted by a Tripura State Rifles jawan were seized in Karepara in West Tripura district, police said today.

A joint team of police and Tripura State Rifles launched a search operation yesterday following a tip-off and arrested the two National Liberation Front of Tripura insurgents.

On the basis of their confession, police dug out two 7.62 self-loading rifles, 105 rounds of cartridges, five magazines and one calculator from Hemantadewanpara village of Dhalai district.

The two SLRs are among the nine allegedly looted by a TSR jawan, Rahid Mian, from Shermun Tilla camp in North Tripura district.

The jawan in collusion with insurgents had allegedly killed three of his colleagues and escaped into Bangladesh with one Light Machine Gun and one carbine besides the nine SLRs on September 23.
