Suspected militants shot dead a man who had filed nomination for next month's nagar panchayat elections in Manipur's Thoubal district on Thursday evening, police sources said.

The 45-year-old Md Sahabudin had filed papers from Lilong area, but later withdrew, the sources said.

A militant outfit had threatened to shoot dead candidates who were 'not clean and not fit to serve the public,' the sources said.

The body of an unidentified person with bullet wounds was found in Lamdeng area in Imphal West district yesterday, the sources added.
