Babunandan and Kanhiya Jaiswal -- both in their early 20s -- were arrested late Sunday in Badhauchghat town of Deoria, about 300 km from state capital Lucknow. According to police, two home-made carbines, two pistols and several live cartridges were recovered from them.

"It was nearly after one hour of gunfight that we managed to arrest Babunandan and Jaiswal, who hail from Gopalganj district of Bihar," police inspector Bhupendra Kumar Yadav told IANS.

He said three of their aides managed to escape.

Yadav said Babunandan and Jaiswal were involved in manufacturing and supplying of illegal arms and were working for a gang in Bihar's Munger district for the past five years.

"The two have confessed they have clients in various districts of Uttar Pradesh," he added.
