"The UDF will benefit because of the confusion in the LDF (Left Democratic Front)," Karunakaran after casting his vote in Thrissur.

Polling took place on Saturday in the six districts of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kozhikode in the second phase of three-round balloting to pick a new assembly.

Karunakaran formed the Democratic Indira Congress-Karunakaran a year ago after lashing out at Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

But the party returned to fight the elections along with the UDF.

"We will win 76 seats and return to power," added his son, K Muraleedharan. The Kerala assembly has 140 seats.
