THE LUCKNOW University has scrapped entrance tests and will accept students for admission to all undergraduate courses—BA, B Sc, B Com and LLB Five years course (Hons)—on the basis of merit. As part of the decision to decentralise the UG admissions procedure, now, students will be selected by the respective faculties though, the post-graduate admissions format will remain unchanged.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Admissions Committee held on Saturday. The change will save the LU considerable time and funds. A committee headed by Pro V-C RS Yadav will work out the nitty gritties of the new process.

Pro V-C RS Yadav told HT Lucknow Live, “These days results of all the Board examinations are available on the internet. In case of doubt, we can verify them. Hence, there is no possibility for any examinee faking his results.”

Also, it was decided at the meeting that admission forms be sold through banks on the CPMT pattern. The banks will be paid a nominal commission for this work.

The Pro V-C said the admissions process would be speeded up too.

The varsity administration said the new process was put in place particularly so that the money spent in paying the teachers for the entire admissions process could be saved. The reaction from the student leaders and other campus fraternity is awaited in reference to this new directive.

However, senior teachers believe that this new mode of admissions at the undergraduate level will throw the academic session out of gear.

They feel that it will amount to large-scale anomalies in the submission of documents as students leaders may resort to arm-twisting to have their favourite students admitted in their choice of faculties.
