Addressing the State-level teacher’s day function here at Ravindra Bhavan, he described the incident as the ‘height of irreverence’ and added the dignity of teachers was eroding.
On the occasion, he also felicitated 32 outstanding teachers. Addressing the gathering of teachers, Governor said respect for teachers was the key to success. “Anyone who does not respect teachers will not progress in life,” said Dr Jakhar.
He said Indian culture gives highest respect to the guru and the “Guru imparts knowledge to pupils without which one cannot be a true human being’’
On the death of Prof Sabharwal, Dr Jakhar said Teacher’s Day should inspire all to resolve that such incidents would not be allowed to happen in future. He insisted on qualitative improvement in education.
“The number of schools and colleges has been doubled and there is a steady increase in the number of students. New courses are being introduced in education institutions. It is, therefore, imperative to improve the quality of education,” said Governor.
However, he added that any changes should be made as per law and rules. Minister for School Education Narottam Mishra speaking on the occasion stressed on the importance of research along with contemplation and thinking in the present age.
“Technology should not be confined to urban areas but be taken up to villages level,” he opined. On the Vande Mataram issue he said, “There is nothing to make a controversy over Vande Mataram.” On the occasion the Governor released the souvenir ‘Shishak Samman’ and magazine Gullak.
Mishra announced that one teacher each will be decorated with the Acharya Samman in every block. Besides, he said a research team of teachers will tour the country and recommend improvement of teachers’ training. On the occasion, CPI LS Baghel, Principal Secretary Indraneel Dani, DEO Dhirendra Chaturvedi and others were present.
‘My role is only to suggest’
ON THE stalling of administrative reforms in universities, Governor Dr Balram Jakhar said he believed in seeking legal opinion before taking any step. Adding that he did not believe in any kind of confrontation, he said his work was to make suggestions and it was for the State Government to act on them.
