Leicester is twinned with Rajkot and has close trade and cultural links with the town. The five-day visit by Vyas and her delegation, which starts, from Monday, is part of a Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) on Good Practice Scheme (GPS) and will be hosted by the Leicester city council.

Besides Vyas, the delegation includes commissioner Dinesh Brahmbhatt, deputy mayor Narendra Solanki and chairman of standing committee Kamlesh Mirani.

The delegation will meet with Leaders of Leicester City Council and discuss with them the CLGF-funded project, which is intended to support, through technical exchanges, local authority in facilitating sustainable development to poor communities.

This is a follow-on project between the two cities; the first being completed in 2008, called, 'Community Development Approach to Clean Water Supply in Rajkot'.

A civic reception in honour of Vyas will be held on 11 May at the Leicester Town Hall.
