The TADA court could not convict Barua due to lack of evidence submitted by the CBI.

With the government not opposing the bail petition the ULFA leader was released.

Barua is the third senior leader released on bail after 'Vice-chairman' Pradip Gogoi and 'Publicity Secretary' Mithinga Daimary.

Barua along with ULFA chairman Arabindo Rajkhowa had been handed over to the state police by the Bangladesh authorities in December last year.
