Rajesh Singh, who was lodged in Tehri jail for his alleged involvement in a vehicle theft case, was brought to Doon hospital for treatment of his fractured hand on January 24, they said.

A case of negligence has been lodged against the two police constables, who were on duty when the undertrial escaped.

Tehri Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohan Singh Bangyal said an investigation has been launched and a tough action would be taken against the police constables if their involvement is found in the case.

He said the efforts were on to arrest the accused.

25-year-old Singh, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested last year from Rishikesh.
