The accused policemen — two constables and one ASI-rank official — were arrested by the Delhi police on Monday and sent to Tihar jail.

According to sources, after coming out of the court, the undertrials Sandeep Chitaniya and Neetu, who are wanted in 12 cases of murder and robbery, requested the officers to allow them to have lunch in a restaurant. The accused then called his friends and told the policemen that they would be dropped back to Gurgaon.

They all boarded a SUV Mahindra Bolero owned by a relative of the criminals.

They also shopped at a Saket mall for R11,000 before driving off to Dwarka, from where the two prisoners escaped.

DCP (crime) Maheshwar Dayal said, “We will definitely take action after we bring them to Gurgaon on production remand from Tihar jail. The policemen have committed a mistake and they will have to pay for it. Our men got swayed by small temptations given by prisoners.”
