Unmatched beauty of Ooty
Planning to visit Ooty. This is a must read.india Updated: Dec 15, 2010 00:59 IST
I am planning a trip to Ooty from Chennai in March 2011. If one is travelling by the Nilgiri Express, one has to alight at Mettupalayam. How’s the frequency of buses from Mettupalayam? How much time it takes to reach Ooty? How many days do I need to see around? Suggest some suitable hotels for two adults and a child of 12.Suniti Kumar
The train from Mettupalayam is a good option provided you have time on your hand as it takes about six hours to reach Ooty. However, the experience is good. Another good option is to take a bus, which are available in plenty and take about three hours to reach Ooty. If you are allergic to hairpin bends, please take appropriate medication with you.
Alternatively, you can also take a taxi which might cost your about R1500. Ooty has plenty of hotel options. If you take a taxi, reach there and choose. You will need about three full days to explore Ooty completely. You can also cover Coonoor, Gudalur and other nearby areas!
Auli is best known for skiing and snow, and a good time to visit is December end to March end. I’d like to know when exactly during this time we can experience the best of snow, when skiing is open and weather is also clear and
sunny with little fog.
In the month of February, Auli will experience heavy snow. However, at that time the road network from Joshimath to Auli will be blocked due to snow on the roads and it will be highly risky at the bends. It’s better to opt for a local driver or take a cable car from Joshimath.
Carry basic winter care medicines as it is difficult to find good medical aid there.
