Nearly 27.96 lakh candidates will take the High School examinations whereas 16.42 lakh candidates will appear in the Intermediate examinations at 7814 centres spread all over the State.
The State Government has decided to deploy sector magistrates at the examination centres and videograph the examination process where ever necessary in an effort to curb copying during the UP Board examinations in the State. Each of these magistrates will keep vigil on 10-12 exam centres. The ''highly sensitive'' examination centres will be under the surveillance of video-cameras during the exam.
Perturbed over the mass cheating incidents during last year's exams, the State Government has asked all concerned departments to get ready for the UP Board exams. Besides the education officials, the entire administration including divisional commissioners, district magistrates and police officials have been asked to hold special meetings to discuss the issue.
A special team of 11 members of the education department has been formed. Consisting of director-level officials, their job will be to examine the entire working of the Board exam throughout the State. The Divisional Commissioner Dr Lalit Verma warned that strict action would be taken against those found indulging in use of unfair means during the exams. According to him the district magistrates have been asked to set up a committee that will include policemen, officials of district administration as well as education department.
This committee will form an action plan for the safety of question papers, answer-copies and maintaining the law and order, especially at the sensitive examination centres. As many as 6,150 candidates including 5,026 boys and 1,124 girls were booked for using unfair means in the Board exams in 2005.
Meanwhile, the Parishad has given one chance to 821 examination centers to improve their image in the forthcoming examinations otherwise they would be debarred. These non-aided colleges have been warned by the Parishad that if more than 10 examinees are caught copying at the centre in this year's Board examinations then the college will be debarred from becoming the examination centre for ever. Board also threatened to reconsider the college recognition in future.
