He urged the State Government to accelerate the process of augmenting generation capacity in order to overcome the power crisis in the country and the State.

He was talking to reporters after commissioning the 1000 MW stage II of the Rihand Super Thermal Power Project here.

The chief minister was also present on the occasion of formal commissioning of the power project.

“Our concern is the State Government should accelerate the power reforms and power production as early as possible,” he said in response to a query about the State Government’s decision to hand over the Anpara C project to the private sector.

To a question about Yadav’s allegation that the Centre was discriminating against the State in the matter of power supply, the Union minister said that both he and the chief minister had entered into an agreement not to indulge in politics on the occasion. However, he made it clear that the Centre was supplying 4,000 MW to UP.

“Uttar Pradesh is the only State which receives so much power,” he said.

The minister added he would soon hold a meeting of the agencies concerned to review the power scenario in the State.

Contrary to complaints, Shinde said the State Government was now clearing its dues.

He said it would be premature to comment on the power scenario in the country before the US Senate ratified the Indo-US civilian nuclear pact.

With the dedication of stage-II, the ultimate capacity of the NTPC-Rihand has reached 2,000 mw.

About the suspension of former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh from the Congress, Shinde said Singh had resorted to gross indiscipline by introducing a privilege motion against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the leakage of the Pathak Authority findings.

“The party is supreme,” said Shinde, who is also a member of the Congress disciplinary committee.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said he and his son Akhilesh would aggressively campaign in Sonebhadra in the forthcoming assembly election.

The Power Minister later flew to Madhya Pradesh where be commissioned a 1000 MW unit of the Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Project stage-III.
