Agitated after recovery of the body of a youth, angry villagers in Mainpuri district targeted a police outpost and burnt its furniture and documents. They blamed a policeman for death of the youth who had come to his his sister’s residence but was found dead on Monday morning.
The mob also damaged the vehicle of sub-district magistrate.
Reports said 18-year-old Anuj Yadav alias Pintu along with his relative had come to the house of his sister in Ram Nagar village under Alau police station of Mainpuri district. He later left for his his home on Sunday night but did not reach his house. On Monday morning his was found in a rice field near Bhawant Road in the district.
Police later said during checking, two policemen from Jageer outpost, Sudhir Yadav and Tahar Singh, had chased two youths on a motorcycle who had tried to speed away and in the process one fell in pond and died.
However, villagers alleged that Sudhir Yadav was behind death of Anuj, who was found shot in head.. They said that Sudhir had a tainted past and villagers had complained about his behaviour earlier also.The angry villagers, not convinced by thepolice version, then went on a rampage and attacked Jageer police outpost. The policemen inside ran for cover while the angry mob torched the furniture and documents in the police outpost.
Revenue officer, officiating as SDM, Satya Narain Yadav reached the spot along with circle officer beside incharge of Alau police station Amit Kumar but they too had to run for cover. Villagers also damaged the officiating SDM's car and later demanded action against the policeman accused of killing the youth.
District magistrate of Mainpuri, VK Pawar and superintendent of police (SP) Sri Kant reached the village. As villagers lodged pressure, the district magistrate ordered the transfer of incharge of Alau police station to the police lines and assured villagers to arrest accused policeman Sudhir Yadav after registering a case of murder against him. Heavy force was deployed in the area.
