In another decision, UPTU V-C Prof Prem Vrat has decided that candidates would no longer have to come to Lucknow to get provisional certificates issued.
The Rs 50 fee required to get provisional certificates have also waived off. In another move aimed at ‘streamlining the system’, candidates with four back papers would be allowed to go through to the next semester/year, Prof Vrat said. “There is a misplaced notion that the move will dilute quality. In fact it will enhance it,” the V-C said while talking to HT on Tuesday.
He said unlike the earlier practice where candidates were allowed to take special exams to clear their back papers, now candidates with more than four back papers in any year would have to repeat the semester/class.
Prof Prem Vrat said special exams would be allowed only once in four years.
“This will be for final year students, within a month of the declaration of the results. If the final year student is carrying a back paper from the third year, then it will have to be cleared during regular exams,” the V-C said.
In case, a student clears his final year and fails to clear his back papers in the regular exam, he would have to repeat the course. In all, a student would get seven years to clear the course.
The V-C said that to further streamline the functioning of the varsity, it had been decided that now provisional certificates would be issued directly by the principals/directors of the various technical colleges across UP.
“We have placed the entire provisional certificate format carrying the electronic signature of the varsity registrar on our website. Only the director/principal of the college concerned has been authorized to download it and issue it to the students after signing it. This will save the students a lot of time and effort,” Prof Prem Vrat said.
