US terms blasts as acts of terror

State Department spokesman offered condolences and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The United States has condemned the blasts in Varanasi that killed at least 28 persons and injured scores, calling them "acts of terrorism".

"... If you take a look at it, it is quite clear that these are acts of terrorism, although at this point I can't tell you who's responsible for these bombings. So we would ...Certainly condemn these acts", State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said on Tuesday.

He also offered condolences and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

"And clearly our hearts go out to those who've lost loved ones and we wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured in these bomb blasts," the Spokesman said.

He added that he did not have any information at this time as to who was behind the attacks and whether any American citizens were affected by them.

"At this point I don't have any information that any American citizens were affected by this, but again, we're still in the early moments of the aftermath of these bombings," McCormack said.
