PEOPLE CELEBRATE all festivals like Holi, Diwali, Eid and Christmas and feel life is full of love and happiness. So is the Valentine’s Day, but everyone has one’s own way to enjoy it.

Sandeep, a sales executive, says: “This is a day to feel closer to a person who is the most lovable one. But some people promote it in an indecent way, which others consider spoils cultural upbringing of young ones.”
Shruti, a student, says: “It is a blot on the society. Some years ago no one even knew about it. It should be protested by the society. I never want to celebrate it as it is just vulgar.”
However, there are people who celebrate it like a festival which spreads love. One can express one’s love for any one on this day, be it one’s mother or father or a friend, they say.
Dheeraj, a student, is in favour of enjoying the day. “Now it has become a good festival for everyone. It is just like Holi and Diwali. The protest from old people is only because of the vulgarity which they have been witnessing during the celebration. People should enjoy this day in a decent way. This day also boosts the sale of cards and flowers.”
Shikha, a housewife, says: “Valentine’s Day is the most important day for me. I always wait for this happiest day.” But she has a complaint that her husband does not have time to celebrate it. Yet it is a big thing for her to hear “Happy Valentine’s Day” from him.
There are some people who want to celebrate this day but do not want to emotionally attach with it. Amit, a student, says: “It is a good day to celebrate but there is nothing that makes me emotionally attached with it. If old people protest, it’s probably jealousy on their part.”
Kanak, a teacher, supports the celebration and wants to enjoy but also wants to make old people understand. She says If they want to preserve traditional values and believe so then people should take care of them.
Anuradha, a housewife, calls old people orthodox. She hopes this day will bring lots of happiness in every one’s life.
Most of the elderly people feel that this day has no meaning especially in our country and strongly believe that India itself has a very rich culture so why copy Western culture.
Munna Lal, a resident of Guptar Ghat, says that he doesn’t know what is Valentine’s Day and has never heard of this. “During my young days there wasn’t any thing like that and it is of no good even today,” he adds.
PR Mohan, a resident of Gwaltoli, says that being a teacher he finds Valentine’s Day like a social evil and just because of these things children have lost their focus in life. “Children are out of control and today’s fast life is making them crazy.”
Saraswati Devi, a resident of Patkapur, feels that because of modern age maximum children are out of control and do not listen to their parents. She further says that these things are not according to our society and especially a girl doesn’t look good when she roams with a boy.
However, 75-year-old Krishna, a resident of Gwaltoli, believes that she knows about it enough and likes this day because youngsters can propose to their special one.
She says: “In our time we were not allowed to move freely but today’s generation is enjoying life up to the best. Valentine’s Day is today’s necessity and everyone should take it lightly.”
Similarly, Jyotindra Nigam, a government employee says that for him it’s not good but according to time he has changed himself and feels everything appears nice when decency exists. Dr Jai Dayal, a resident of Ramadevi, says that it should be enjoyed by every age and one’s Valentine can be anyone. He says he will celebrate this day with all his family members and their Valentine will be his mother-in-law. “I have placed an order for a cake on which My Dear Valentino Ma is written,” he adds.
