Convenor of the programme Dr Kameshwar Nath Singh said the theme of the seminar would be the use of technology in agriculture and rural development.

Singh said despite urbanisation, a sizeable population resided in rural India.

Without a quantum jump in agriculture and enhancement of quality of life in rural areas, the country would not emerge as an international power.

He said enhancement of agricultural output was the key to rural prosperity, which involved energy, security, connectivity, and provisions of urban amenities in rural areas.

He also said information technology was penetrating rural India.

Focusing on the objective of the seminar, Dr Singh said chalking out appropriate strategies for all-round development of rural areas was the main objective.

He further said the main subjects of the seminar were integrated land and water management, rural development, impact of liberalisation and privatisation on Indian economy, export oriented agriculture and marketing of agro products.

Singh said the seminar would be organised in collaboration with the Institute of Rural and Economic Development (IRED) which was established under guidance of former head and Faculty of Arts dean Prof Jagdish Singh.

He said the institute organised multi-disciplinary national seminar every year on the eve of Basant Panchami (Prithvi Parva) at different places.
