Vijaya Bank Q3 net up 24 pc at Rs 157 cr

State-run Vijaya Bank on Friday reported a 23.73 per cent growth in net profit at Rs 156.99 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2008.

The company had a net profit of Rs 126.88 crore in the December quarter of FY'08, Vijaya Bank said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The total income rose 43.52 per cent to Rs 1,634.98 crore for the quarter under review, from Rs 1,139.19 crore in the same period last fiscal.

For the nine months ended December 2008, the state-run lender reported a net profit of Rs 160.23 crore, down 53.35 per cent over the year-ago period.

The total income, during the nine-month period to December-end, climbed 37 per cent to Rs 4,314.35 crore.

Shares of Vijaya Bank were trading at Rs 29.35, down 4.08 per cent in the afternoon trade on the BSE.
