The assailants managed to flee the scene after the murder. One of the injured has been admitted to district hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger. The deceased, Ramji Sonker (48)  was the husband of Lalmani Devi, village chief of Khushipur. The cause of the murder is stated to be a dispute over a piece of land.

Angry at the murder, the villagers became violent and pelted stones on passing vehicles on the Allahabad-Varanasi route till late night. They also blocked GT Road, demanding immediate arrest of the assailants. The police finally seized the body for post mortem examination after tireless efforts. The road blockade continued till late night, throwing normal traffic out of gear. Ultimately, police resorted to mild lathicharge and ended the blockade.

A named FIR has been lodged with the police against five persons in this connection. The police have taken three persons into custody for interrogation to find clues about the named accused who is absconding. Raids are being conducted in different parts of the district to nab the assailants.

According to information, Ramji, accompanied by his nephew Babloo and friend Rinku Singh had gone to Bachav village to settle a land dispute. Later, they had dinner at a dhaba and left for Khushipur  on their bikes. In the meantime, motorcycle-borne miscreants waylaid them and opened fire.

Ramji died on the spot while Babloo and Rinku sustained injuries. The miscreants soon fled the scene on their bikes.

A large number of villagers assembled there and placing the body of the deceased on GT Road, started stoning passing vehicles. When the police tried to intervene, they pelted stones on cops too.

On getting information, additional police force from different police stations was sent to the spot to control the situation. Babloo was discharged from hospital while Rinku was admitted for treatment.
