And it comes from none other than the British government, which has evolved a new scheme whereby it would pay 3000 pounds to asylum seekers who are willing to return to their homelands.

But there is a rider, as no one who made an asylum application after December 31, 2005, will be eligible to get the "bribe" under the scheme, reported The Sun.

The move has been described as "sensible", as the British Government would save nearly 8000 pounds, if compared with the cost of a forced deportation – which is nearly 11,000 pounds.

According to the paper, the would-be immigrants voluntarily departing the UK already get a 1000 pounds resettlement pay-off, but now the government has launched a pilot scheme offering another 2000 pounds if they agree to leave by the end of June. It would cost taxpayers at least another 6.2 million pounds. Taxpayers will also pick up the bill for the flights, the report added.

3000 pounds was a "good value for money" compared with the 11,000 pounds incurred in a forced deportation, the paper quoted British Immigration Minister, Tony McNulty as saying.

The Government hopes that the move would increase the number of people returning in the first six months of this year from about 1950 to around 3000.
