The Gurgaon police on Wednesday shot dead a notorious criminal Virender alias 'Kana' who had a reward of Rs. 1 lakh on his head. He was wanted in connection with the sensational murder case of a student union president of Kurukshetra University, besides 20 other heinous crimes.

The encounter took place when the gangster and his associate were going towards the canal near Dhankot on a bike and were surrounded by the police. The criminals first opened fire on the police and in the exchange of fire Virender was killed, however his associate escaped. Police have recovered a .32 bore pistol from the deceased.
In April, the police arrested notorious criminal Suresh alias Tanggu and associate Inderjeet. Suresh was also wanted in the murder case of the Kurukshetra university student union president.
"Suresh alias Tanggu, the mastermind of the 10-member gang, was on the run for the last two years," a police officer said.
