After five hours of pacifying the angry students, V-C Prof Arun Kumar removed Prof Prasad from the warden’s post and nominated Prof Rajendra Prasad as the new warden of Vivekanand Hostel.

Earlier, head of the department of Law and warden of Swami Vivekanand, Prof Prasad had identified nine students illegally residing in the hostel. He issued a notice to them to evacuate the hostel. On Sunday morning Prof Prasad along with others started getting the rooms evacuated. The situation took an ugly turn when the warden ordered to open the lock of room number 1 and 110, illegally possessed by some students.

Sharply reacting to the action, student union president Rajiv Pandey, vice president Chetna Pandey, former vice-president Mahendra Rai and others rushed to Vivekanand Hostel to stop the warden.

Soon students of all four hostels took out a procession and reached the V-C residence, demanding the dismissal of Anirudh Prasad from the warden’s post. The Vhimself visited the hostel to take stock of the situation.

Sources said Prof Kumar was trying to adopt a middle path to resolve the dispute but student leaders were adamant on the dismissal demand. According to reports, Prof Prasad also argued with the V-C on this issue and remained firm on his stand. He even said that he would raise the issue before the chancellor and the chief secretary of the State. However, under intense pressure mounted by the students, the V-C later removed Prof Prasad.

Student union president Rajiv Pandey said if the hostellers were forced to quit the rooms, students of all hostels would vacate their rooms and hit the street.
He threatened that students would bring the normal functioning of the university to a grinding halt if Prof Prasad was not dismissed.

He said that hostel students had taken admission in diploma course in Labour Law and were are entitled to stay in the hostel. However, several students who have taken admission in LLM course have not been allotted hostel rooms.
