A LOCAL court has issued bailable warrants aga-inst Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, two Chhattisgarh ministers and 57 other BJP leaders in connection with a case registered against them during an agitation five years ago.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Satyabhama on Thursday ordered issuance of bailable warrants against Chouhan, Chhattisgarh Finance Minister Amar Agrawal, PWD Minister Rajesh Munat and about 57 BJP leaders after the police filed the charge sheet against them.
Police had registered a case under various sections of IPC after leaders of BJP, which was then in opposition, organised a gherao of the official residence of then Chief Minister Ajit Jogi.
After the BJP came to power, the state government had withdrawn three other cases registered against the BJP leaders. Three other cases were still pending for disposal in the courts.
State Congress chief for CM’s resignation
STATE CONGRESS president Subhash Yadav on Friday demanded Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s resignation in the wake of an arrest warrant issued against him by a court in Chhattisgarh.
The warrant was issued against Chouhan in connection with a demonstration carried out by the BJP in Raipur on April 28, 2001 against the then Congress government.
Yadav said Uma Bharti had resigned as Chief Minister on moral grounds after a Hubli court issued an arrest warrant against her.
Chouhan should follow suit and resign from his post, he added.
