Here are some tips on how to wash your clothes the right way.

No excess soap: More detergent doesn’t mean cleaner clothes. In fact, excess soap can damage cotton garments beyond repair.

Read the instructions: Follow care-label directions for washing and drying temperatures. Do not use very hot temperatures, or your clothes may shrink. Hand wash in a good soft detergent or machine wash on a soft cycle.

Wash with care: Wash your clothes inside out to prevent the colour from fading. Also, try not to use bleach as it can weaken the cotton fibres. If, you must, use sparingly. Yellow stains may form on your clothes due to usage of antiperspirants. Apply fresh lemon juice to the stains, soak for 30 minutes and then rinse with cool water. Also, wash whites and coloured clothes separately.

Avoid silicon-based fabric softeners: Silicon is a water repellent and will leave a waxy film on your clothes.

Remove the stains: As dryer sets stains, remove stains before placing garments in the dryer. Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading or discolouration.
