The two-decade-old Bofors kickbacks case against Ottavio Quattrocchi should be dropped not because he is innocent but because of the inefficient handling of the case by the CBI (Quattrocchi out of reach, again, June 10). The investigation has been directed more by the vested interests of politicians than any professional sincerity. As the case has failed to bring out the truth even after spending crores of rupees, should we not one day make a case for recovering the money we spent on the trips investigating officers have made ostensibly to bring back the VIP suspect?
