Waterlogging at Mori Gate: DM orders fall on deaf ears
DESPITE a strict warning to the officials by District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat, to ensure that all pumps installed at the Mori Gate in Daraganj were in working condition by June 20, no steps have been taken in the direction till date. As a result, just half-an-hour?s rain last night resulted in heavy waterlogging in Allahapur area this morning.
DESPITE a strict warning to the officials by District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat, to ensure that all pumps installed at the Mori Gate in Daraganj were in working condition by June 20, no steps have been taken in the direction till date. As a result, just half-an-hour’s rain last night resulted in heavy waterlogging in Allahapur area this morning.
Corporators Shiv Sewak Singh and Kamlesh Singh inspected the pumps in the wee-hours this morning and said in a joint statement that on their visit to Mori Gate, they found the area deprived of power supply despite standing orders for uninterrupted supply of electricity to the area during the rainy season so that the the pumps could work round the clock.
The arrangement had been made in view of water-logging that plagues the area every year in the event of even a little rain. In the absence of power the corporators got the gate opened to allow the accumulated water to pass through.
They later went to the Alopi Bagh sewage plant to get the pumps started. By this time, water level in the river had reached 82 metres. They said, pumps should have been started when the water level reached 81.41 metres but this did not happen.
Citing another example of how the DM’s orders were being flouted, they said, the DM had ordered the Nagar Nigam to press into service a team of 12 persons to net all polythene bags from the drains but the same was not being done.
Also, they said, experinced ‘Safai Nayaks’ who have worked successfully in this area earlier and who were ordered to be posted here again have yet to join duty.
The corporators jointly appealed the DM to take strict action against all the Jal Nigam and Nagar Nigam officers who have blatantly disregarded his orders.
