On reaching Nandigram, which has witnessed repeated violence since January this year, Gandhi joined the children playing cricket at the grounds of Sitananda College.

He weilded the willow and was bowled out in the very first ball. Gandhi, however, played on and faced a few more balls much to the delight of the children and the villagers who had gathered there.

Earlier, at Nimtauri, enroute to Nandigram, the Governor stopped before a pandal being erected for Tara Ma puja and spoke to those engaged in work there.

At Muradpur, he went down to a paddy field to interact with the people working there.

Gandhi also visited a local's house and participated in the morning aarti going on at the time.
