“The CPM government boasts itself as the most inclined towards the interest of workers but the reality is just the opposite,” stated Sinha. In West Bengal the DA is 16 per cent less in comparison to other states”, added Sinha. Further lambasting the CPM government, Sinha pointed out that more than 1500 labourers had committed suicide in Kolkata and adjoining areas in the past three years. He also accused the Union government of pursuing anti- people policies.

“A ten-point agenda has been prepared by the JPA and a nationwide campaign would be launched and thereafter a call for nationwide strike would be given,” remarked Sinha. Expressing his anguish at the privatisation policy pursued by the Union government, Sinha stated that Centre was contemplating to do away with the concept of permanent employees.

“Now employees on contract basis would be appointed and the policy of hire-and-fire would be followed,” remarked Sinha. He also pointed out that thousands of posts sanctioned by the Union government were lying vacant and no new appointments were being made to fill-up the vacancies. “In UP alone more than 650 vacancies in the Employees Provident Fund (EFP) are lying vacant with more than 5000 vacancies at the national level,” informed Sinha.
